A 12" speaker in a Webb, what am I thinking??

I am thinking that the hardness of the low end might be just up my alley. I am thinking that the Webb can give me a lot of options with this combination.

I got a 4 ohm basket from Larry Petree and put the superstructure magnet from my 1501 DT on it, works great so far.

Details after the gig this weekend.

Moved to 'Electronics'.

I've been using 12" speakers a lot lately, but never with the Webb. I like that JBL in there too much to mess with a good thing.

I heard Hal Rugg playing one of Tommy Whites Webbs at Branson and it had a 12" speaker and sounded tremendous. Tommy let Hal use his amp until Hal's could be delivered. The guy just keeps on doing good stuff!

A 12 inch speaker works fine with a pedal steel guitar. I am running an Eminence Deltalite and love it. I ran a Sro Electrovioice before that and it sound great. Try one and I'm sure you'll like it with any amp you own. A 12 inch speaker sounds out the low end as well as anything.

So far so good, the sound man likes the highs I am getting as it sets the steel apart from the rest of the vocals and instruments. The guitar player thought the fiddle and electric banjo has more presence and definition. My wife could really tell the difference in the clearity. Steelers at the gig said it was clean and clear.

I have been looking for a tight low end for many years but always loved the 15" speaker, after thousand of dollars over many years manybe I have hit on something. I never liked the highs on a 12 but with amp placement and the warmth of the Webb and the cloth dome this might be OK.

I put a 1203-4 in an old LTD 400, with a Pacer cabinet. Same results, killer amp. That is one of the best 12" speakers I have ever palyer through! I think the low end was better than an LTD with a 15"!

recently i bought a 2x12" cab with k-120's in it. i had to take it back because there were buzzes coming from both speakers, but when it they weren't buzzing, the sound was really nice. i prefer the 12" to the 15", but i think two is better than one. i found that the lows were really stong and tight, and the highs were really smooth, and with two 12"s, you can push more air than with a 15". the lead guitarist in the band also noticed that the sound was not as big as before, which sometimes he doesn't get into because he says it drowns the other instruments out, which i can see. we talk a lot about having some uniformity of sound throughout, to add a cohesivness to the overall sound of the band, and most guitarists are going to play thru a 2x12" cab or a 4x10", so if the steel also has a 2x12" cab, the uniformity is maintained. if i ever get another chance on a 2x12" with k-120's that are in good shape, i will probably go to it, but for now i will use the 15". sounds good anyways.
