Peavey Classic Amp
While at a music store today nearby I saw a used Peavey Classic. It was in good condition and priced at $179.00
I couldnt see the back of the Amp because of other Amps in the way Etc.
If I am correct, isnt this Amp a tube Amp or a hybrid of a tube Amp ?
Seemed like a lot of Amp for the price.
Dont remember the wattage on these old Amps?
Any one use the Classic ??

We've had a "Classic" amp in our product line since the early 70's and still do today. It depends on which one that you saw at the shop. We've built Classic hybrids, but our present line of Classic amps are all tube except for the IC driven reverb circuit.

I had an 80's Classic with 2 12's for a while. I used it when I first started playing straight steel and in retrospect it wasn't a bad sounding amp. I think it was 65 watts, had two power tubes, but I would say the tubes were for cosmetic purposes. For $179 it would be a good value for home and medium volume environments. I removed the garish logo, recovered it in tweed and put some retro knobs on it. I ended up selling it to a punk rock kid who spray painted it black and day-glo green.

I have a classic, I pot a BW 15 in it, and it sounded good on a job, the power was there, for tone a tubefex or genesis 3 helped it, actually I think it is a good amp, for $179 it's a good deal, mine was $150 with 2 celestions, those i sold for $80 as a pair, so for under $200 I have a hybrid tbe amp with a BW (which needed a baffle board made)but as i say, an effects unit with eq helped it along as I found not a whole lot of variation in the bass, mid, treble, of the classic

Tim, the 65 watt Classic that you owned was called a Classic VTX, ie; tube power amp/solid state preamp. The tubes really did provide the power and were not there for cosmetic purposes though. The VTX Series was one of the most successful series of guitar amps that we've made. But, the Classic Series of amps since the mid '70's have been popular as well.
