I think they are great amps, if you feel the price is right, liked it better than my Nashville 400

the reason i bought a Vegas was because it was a two channel amp, my effects processor I was using had the effects I wanted, but seemed to "color" my tone, the Vegas allowed me to go guitar, to pedal, to input of channel one, completely dry, I then patched a cord from the output loop (send) of channel one to the effects (which were set to full effect, more than you would ever use normally), and into the input of channel two which was only set to low volume, enough to hear the effects in their proper balance to the total sound, this works great, my volumes were about 80% channel one, and 20% channel two, the sound was very clean and true, if I wanted a little more effect, just slightly nudge up volume on channel two, I've since gone to another effects unit and have traded the Vegas for the Session 400 LTD, but would buy another Vegas, best part my Vegas cost me $250 when I bought it, what an amp for $250!!!

Gary,

if the amp you are using now is also a Peavey, you will love the Vegas. It has the same tone control as the Nashville 400 and the cabinet of a Session 400, thus having more low end than a Nash. The second channel comes in handy if you double on guitar or use it as an effects return with full volume and tone control like Jim suggested.

I just picked up a Vegas as a backup for my Session 400 LTD and I'm thrilled with it. I may retire the Session now, instead.

Or I'll use both amps and watch the drummer's eyes widen with fear ... Image

Go for it - you won't be sorry.

Rainer

I've been using a Vegas for several months now, and I agree it is a nice steel amp.
I'll have to try using the second channel for effects.

One thing I found that made it sound better to me...
At first I was running the POST GAIN at 10, and the PRE GAIN at around 3-4 (or whatever was needed, typically between 8 o'clock to 11 o'clock).
I thought this would give me the cleanest sound.
I noticed that the DDT Compression light came on alot though.

I played a gig using that amp a few weeks back where I was hired to play 6 string guitar all night, and found a good sound with the PRE and POST both set about straight up (12 o'clock).
This setting has turned out to work great for steel!
I have been experimenting with the PRE/POST settings, even having the PRE hotter than the POST, and have found that I can still get the amp to be loud as hell, still clean but with a bit more warmth (overdrive?), and a better balance of tone from bass to treble strings (I play a 12 string so this is important).
Verrrrrrrryyyyy InnnnTeresting!

I know Ray Montee also has a Vegas, and likes it. I was looking for one when I got my Nvl4, but I'm perfectly happy with it.

If you can, you should try to find out if your new Vegas has had the Peavey Mod installed. The Vegas was great before but with the Mod it was unbeleivable.

Stingray, if you wish to order the Peavey Tone Mod kit(#90500047), you can phone our Parts Department at 1-877-732-8391 and order the kit. The U.S.MSRP of this kit is $39.98. What the kit does is "safely" boosts the low frequencies, smooth out the mid range and enhance the high frequencies.

Stingray, enjoy your "new" amp. Been using a Vegas for about 15 years and still love it. Very "open" sounding. It's gone through a few speakers and every 5 years I have it resoldered - it's on wheels so it gets shaken quite a bit. Many steel players have played through it and most seem pleased.

Thanks again for all the posts!
I don't think it has the mod. "but" it sounds
very nice...I was using a N/V 1000 but I had a little trouble contoling the brightness..
this amp has a more usefull tone for me..
Of coarse I always used tube amps before..

I hooked my effects up on my Vegas the way Jim suggested in his post, and all I can say is Wow this is great. with both sets of controls active, it really made the amp come alive. I used a RV-3 for effects<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Jack Musgrave on 30 December 2003 at 03:55 AM.]</p></FONT>
