For Mike Brown
Mike at one time I heard that Peavey may have a lighter weight magnet or something to make the Nashville 1000 lighter... Is there any thing in an aftermarket magnet or speaker that would reduce the weight of the 1000?? Has this been abandoned or is Peavey still trying to find a way to reduce the weight of this great amp??? Every year this amp feels heavier for some reason, I hope it's not because of my age...It looks like there may be a few more of us seniors that could use a way of making the 1000 & 2000 a bit lighter without sacrificing quality... My wife states that as of Jan 1st,2004 she will no longer carry my amp or steel,, the steel I can divide into 2 cases, but the amp????Thanks.... John

Here's my idea from another post:
Another way to deal with the weight problem is to make a separate head and speaker cabinet. For some reason steelers resist that. But an amp head and separate cabinet can each be almost half the weight of a combo. Also, the cabinet can more easily be a closed-back reflex design with better sound than an open-back combo. Another nice thing about a head is that you can set it beside your steel and tweak it between songs, while your speaker sits back behind you out of reach.
An option that would be nice for those really high volume gigs would be a second speaker that is a ss active cabinet that would let you more or less double the output without having to buy a second amp. this would also allow the amp head to be less powerful and lighter. The way I invision this, you would just add additional light-weight pieces to the system to get more volume for bigger venues. The first piece would be the amp (either combo, or head and single cabinet, say 150-200 watts). Then you could add an extension speaker in parallel for an additional 50% boost. Or, for 100% boost, add an active speaker. It could have essentially the same ss power amp as the original amp, and just tap into a second outlet from the preamp. None of the pieces would weigh more than 30 or 35 lbs. You'd just carry more pieces in for bigger venues. What do you think?

Hire a Roadie, they are cheaper than a wife and don't talk back.<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_4_105.gif' border=0></a><SMALL>My wife states that as of Jan 1st,2004 she will no longer carry my amp or steel</SMALL>
Seriously, Peavey just discontinued the PX-300 whick is a Nashville 1000 without a preamp, I have two of them and have my Preamp, Effects and Tuner in a 4 space shallow Rack cabinet, works out very well for me, but would like to see Peavey come out with the lightweight Black Widow.

John, Mike said a few weeks ago right here that Peavey's working on a Neo speaker for their amps, and that may save you about 8 pounds ('course, it'll probably cost a few hundred, too). Mike will have to give the exact specs, and tell when in 2004 we might see it.
(There are aftermarket neo speakers that are available right now, but none that will handle the power of the 400 or 1000 amps.)

Hey, you're right about a roadie working cheaper than a wife, and if I could get a roadie that looks anything like the staff that work in Bobbe Slushmore's music store, YUP !!
Anyway the idea of making the amp into 2 separate cabinets appeals to me.. Would a person have to order a special speaker cabinet, re: dimensions etc.?Would the sound be sacificed with a closed back speaker???
Also the new Neo speaker sounds great.. I just thought that with todays technology, sending a man to the moon, bombing with infra red technology, cameras taking pictures in darkness,Bose stereo systems, etc., you would think that some one could make a 30 to 35 lb. amp that would give a sound equal to or better than the Nashville 400 & 1000

Jolynyk-I agree with you. You'd think with all this high tech stuff, they could build a Nashville 400 or a 1000 that weighed 30-35 lbs. Why not???? come on , go go Peavey...How about a Happy New Year for Mike Brown , Peavey and all of us...al

Thanks Al, & I sure do hope that Peavey comes up with something, I mean look at the new computer monitors, couple of inches thick, & with a superior screen to the old monitors... why not a 15" speaker like that, gosh this isn't the 50's, & yet amps weigh as much as they did then, or pretty close to it... & most steelers seem to be getting up in age,& in my case certainly getting to the point of giving up steel..It's OK when you play with groups like some steelers do, & have someone haul your stuff in & set it up , but I'm not one of the fortunate ones to have that luxury.. I know myself I play in some reception rooms in the basement of hotels...or 2nd floor as in the case of a few Legions I've played in, YIKES.. it was even hard when I was 40, but at 70... Peavey let's encourage the older players to keep on playing, & be able to transport the amps for gigs & jam sessions without having to haul forklift trucks in our pick-ups.
