Genesis 3 Delay/Reverb

Post by Dennis Detweiler »

My unit was built in 2001. I assume it's the 1.0 version. It doesn't have "spread" in the delay settings. What does "spread" do compared to the "ppong", "mono", "analog" and "analog-pong" settings in the 1.0 version? I'm experimenting with this in stereo mode, using a classic 50/50. The "pong" settings sounds bigger, but requires less intense settings on the other delay settings to get it cooled down enough.
What does the 1.4 add to the brains of the older models?
Thanks

Dennis. I had that issue too. If you download firmware v1.4, you will then have the spread feature. There are some other bug fixes too. Spread was the main thing I noticed missing from the old version. Spread is sort of like mono delay except the echo has a slight flam between the left and right giving a wider image from the echo.

For clean steel guitar, it sounds like the "cleantube" amp in the "MORE" setting or the "blackface" are the amp choices most suitable. I thought the "bass man" amp might be clean and warm like the old 59 bassman, but it is a little rich in warmth and goes into slight distortion? Image The speaker choices are more usable, but cabinet tuning is probably a must to make some of them suitable for steel.
It's a fun and time consuming processor to work with. But, I believe there are alot more variables to get what we want if time is taken to experiment. And then combining it with rack or amp preamp settings should narrow it down to an ultimate prefered tone if you can't get it directly from the tone settings on the Genesis.
Perhaps everyone can post their "happy" findings and trade at some point? Image

I programmed Buddy's settings into my storage. For some reason, I didn't sound like him when I played through it? Image There are other factors in getting his exact tone in the end...such as his guitar, pickup, amp and speaker. And then, of course, his right hand. However, I thought it sounded real close on the E9th. I have to run through the C6th and make sure I punched in the right settings. It doesn't sound as close to me?

Don't forget about what Buddy said in that same topic in regrds to the "volume pedal" having an affect on the sound.

Yup and the pedal.
Some tone could even have something to do with his left and right leg bone density? Image
