Evans SE200
Anyone have any experience with these Evans amps? Haven't played through one, but the Evans line is considered great... so, reviews? Raves? Gripes?

I am playing through an S/E 150 and I'm getting a great sound. For the most part in the places I play it is very capable. There are a couple places that seat about 250 and in them I could use just a little more head room as far as power. If you are going for the S/E 200 you will have plenty of head room and you will love the amp. My thoughts.

Nicholas, they are GREAT amps. I would suggest that you try one out first. The kind of speaker that you have in it will make a considerable difference.
[This message was edited by Kevin Hatton on 28 September 2003 at 02:45 PM.]

[This message was edited by Kevin Hatton on 28 September 2003 at 02:45 PM.]

Dear Nicholas,
I was not pleased with the SE 200, I suspect it may have been the stock speaker, as I tried the preamp into a Hafler power amp with a Celestion-loaded cabinet and it sounded pretty hot. Try as I might, I could not eliminate the boxy quality of the SE 200, in its own cabinet with the stock Eminence speaker. Serious caveat: the new SE 200s have no control for midrange! Pretty important knob on any amp as far as I am concerned.
I am a tube fiend as well, solid state amps just don't produce the upper partials I like to hear. I sold mine to another guy who loves it, last I heard. Jon Light has an older model Evans that sounded pretty great, actually. Ask him which model. I'd still like to get together some time for some pickin'.
