What is the difference in power handling capacity between the D-130 and the K-130 JBL speakers?

I was just researching this topic a couple of months ago. As I recall the D-130's are rated at 75W and the E- and K-series are rated at 150W.

In my experience, nothing will sound better than a D-130 for steel -- the AlNiCo magnet produces a much warmer sound. BUT it will blow pretty easily in a Twin or anything with 100W or more. BEWARE. A vintage D-130 can cost a pretty penny -- it's a shame to blow it to kingdom come, not realizing that it's NOT designed for modern high powered amps.

The D-series is rated at 100 watts "power capacity", according to an original scan of the spec sheets I have on file. They do use rhe term RMS power at all on the spec sheet. They define "power capacity" as "continuous program material".

I used a D-130 in my Webb 6-14E for several years with no damaging effects. For loud gigs I used two D-130's. But... I did not play C6th at the time. I understand that the powerful low notes of the C6th neck are what really blows them out.

The Webb is rated 225 watts @ 4 ohms. Running an 8 ohm speaker significantly reduced the volume of the amp. It did work, though, and it sounded good.

I have an original D and K....I had the D in my Twin..and it sounded awesome of course...but would kinda flutter a bit on the low side of the C neck....>so I put my K in there...and yeee haaa; It handles fine and sounds the same....as the K is a alnico mag. also....but just handles more watts thrown at it.
So I put the D in an extension cab...and there ya go....The perfect rig.

Thanks guys.....I've got a K-130 in my '77 Session 400 and didn't want to have to worry about blowing it. It sure sounds good in the old Session. I knew the D-130's were known for not holding up in the higher powered amps. I appreciate the responses. I feel much better now.
