Playing 78 rpm records

Post by Doyle Huff »

I don't know how many of you have old 78 records but not a 78 player, I have a solution. I have a program called Rip Vinyl that records each song on a record seperately. It also has the feature that allows you play a 78 @ 45 rpm and records it. When you play it back it back,it sounds like it should.

That "sounds" cool! Image "Sounds" like it would also reduce the transfer time. Image

Oops, I had it backward. The transfer would be longer. Image It would be neat though, if you could record 33 RPM records at 45 or 78 and have the software slow them down during recording.

Doyle,
Does the program also compensate for the noise and distortion you get from playing it with the wrong size needle?

The old 78 rpm records required a 3 mil needle. The 33 and 45 rpm records use a 1 mil needle.
The smaller needle tends to bounce around in the groove which leads to noise and distortion.
