Profex II & sustain device??

Post by Johnny Stout »

This topic may have been addressed before, but for those of you that use a ProFex II,TubeFex, TranstubeFex do you use a sustain device with it, such as a Steeldriver, 7A, or Matchbox? I'm wondering if it is necessary, or does the effects rack have the impedence matching circuitry built into it?

In have used a Hilton Sustainer to match the pickup to the volume pedal. The first thing in any of the Profex or other processor units is an opamp, hi-Z input.
However the sustainer is still necessary for me to to get the kind of matchup to
the volume pedal needed. The Hilton pedal would overcome that problem for me.
I recently tried using the volume pedal in the effects loop of the Profex 2. This allows me to go straight into the Profex 2 from the guitar, no need for the sustainer or matchbox. The effect loop is a buffered output and input, using 4558 chips. It would be an improvement to replace these chips with the Burr Brown chips. The Peavey and Lemay upgrade do not replace these three chips. As the effects loop is seldom used, economics probably came into play and these 3 did not get replaced. It would nearly double the price of the kits, which contains only 4 chips
