A/B BOX Confusion.

Can anyone recommend an A/B Box that I can buy so I can make tuning corrections without unplugging my steel and plugging in the tuner? It would have to have a selector switch so I could bypass the steel completely. Also, do these boxes affect the accuracy of the signal to the tuner? Any help here would really be appreciated. This one is pretty good. Several companies make them. Go to any of the online music distributors and do a search for 'Switch'.

Do they affect tuner accuracy? No.

I don't know your setup, but most volume pedals have two outputs. Can use one for the amp, one for the tuner. When I am thru tuning, I turn the tuner off. This stops the noise.

If you have a volume pedal with two outputs, you can rewire one of the outputs so that it is always "hot", even with the pedal backed off. That way you can tune and no sound will come out of the amp.

I do think you may have some impedance issues if you do this, though. These "issues" may equate to poor tone.

Martin,
Take one note from the tuner, maybe E, and tune the rest of the steel to it, by ear.

Works great for me.

Better yet....tune to the piano player, or any other band member, who claims to be in tune.

After all, in a band situation at least, everyone has to be in tune with everyone else.

If you are, sort-of-by yourself, confidently tuning with a tuner, believe it or not, when the truth is revealed, you may not be right-on with the rest of the band. Best to check.

I only use a tuner to get a starter note. Then I tune by ear, and what I hear.

Thanks for the help guys. Ron R. I am using a Hilton with 2 outlets. Larry B., I ordered the Boss AB-2 from Musicians Friend. Looks like a decent unit. Of course they weren't in stock and wont be delivered till some time late next month. Hopefully about the same time I get delivery on the new V-SAM. I have noticed that Musicians Friend advertises a lot of things they dont stock. Anyway, problem is solved. Thanks much.
