Replacing a 12" speaker, what should I buy?

Amplifiers, effects, pickups, electronic components, wiring, etc.

Replacing a 12" speaker, what should I buy?

Post by Bill Llewellyn »

I'm toying with the idea of replacing the stock 12" speaker in my old Roland Jazz-Chorus 50 amp just to give it a shot in the arm. Any suggestions on which 12" to buy, and where to get it?

I replaced the 12" speaker in my Seymour Duncan 50/50 tube amp with an old JBL that came from my Twin and it sure brought it to life. I also like the Celestion Silver series 70W That I put in my Twin.
The big sound I have now is with a 15" celestion in an enclosed cab.

The new Tone Tubby ceramic 40/40 is getting good reviews. See http://tonetubby.com
[This message was edited by Del Rangel on 28 March 2003 at 09:18 AM.]

Electrovoice EVM12L's sound great I've got them in a couple of my amps. Also the Celestion Vintage 30's sound good. Not quite as loud, similar sound, weigh and cost less.

Electro-Voice speakers...if you like 'em, get 'em while you can. E-V stopped manufacturing all musical instrument speakers last year.

Too bad...they were a great speaker.
