Ry Cooder compression

Post by wt golden »

I was wondering if any one had any ideas as to what kind of processing went on in "Into the Purple Valley".
His electric tone is very compressed - I can't match it at all with my MXR dyna comp turned all the way up.

Maybe he ran the signal through a distortion pedal then through a compressor.?

Just thought someone here might have an idea.

thanks

Will

Hi,
I don`t know what Cooder used but about the same time Lowell George was using two Dyna-Comps in series!Probably he had to use a noise gate also Image

Ry was using a Fairchild Limiter, I believe. He has always used extremely high end gear.

Here's a discussion about Mr. Cooder's equipment that might be helpful.

Thanks for all the insight. The quest for that perfect tone never seems to stop - although Ry seem to find it a lot!

I'm moving this topic to "Electronics", because that's where we generally talk about equipment.
