Digital delay preferences

Post by Rich Weiss »

What's a good unit for recording digital delay? I don't like the delay on my Pod, or the delay in my Profex II, (even when it was working) I'm partial to stomp boxes, as opposed to rack mounts, and I don't require a reverb on it. thanks

Boss builds the DD-3 and the DD-5. I've heard the the Big E is partial to the DD-3 as it has repeats from here to eternity!

I'm fond of TC Electronics, on the higher end, and I played through the Danelectro Reel-Echo last night and it's kinda cool -- with an Echoplex style slider for delay time and a kinda retro sound.

In my experience, the Boss delays have been perfectly acceptable, with good design and durability. I have a DD-5 that is as full featured as most rack units. If the engineer lets you record the delay to the track (MANY DON'T), it's hard to beat the DD-3 or DD-5, in my book.

I own lots of them--TC Electronics 2290's, D2's (my studio rack faves), Lexicons, Korgs, Rolands etc. But I gotta say my Line 6 Delay Modeler does it for me big time for the steel. There are 16 models of various delays, and they are all cool. I never play without mine...

I have a line 6 delay modeler. It has a wide range of sounds from clean and quiet DD to analog and tape, to some bizarre reverse tape stuff. It is great live as well due to tap speed, and additional fvariable footpedal.

Well...I glad I finally agree with Buddy on something! DD3 is a great unit. Come to think of it, I can't think of anything I wouldn't agree with Buddy on as far as PSG is concerned!
