Coil Taps

Most pick up manufacturers just have a single winding these days. My first guitar, a twin 10 ZB, had 3 coil taps in the pick up which I felt was a good idea and gave a choice of tonal variations. I wonder why the trend has been to get away from multi taps and just have a single winding.

Because steelplayers nowadays are just lookin' for "that tone"!

You see, the idea that more than <u>one</u> tone might good, or useful, or proper went out in the '60s!

Donny - I know you are right as I've been using single wound pickups since 1972, and now use E66's. However, for recording purposes, coil tapped pickups can give a variation that eq'ing can't. Obviously the pickup manufacturers will make what is in greatest demand and that makes commercial sense.
