Fender -?- for Jody & DVA

Post by Jon Light (deceased) »

....did you know that Fender amps sound pretty good?

OK, OK---I bet you did know that. And there are plenty of you others that know that but Jody & DVA come to mind as "most likely to sleep on Blue/White/Silver grill cloth pillowcases". Just my excuse to talk about my latest adventure. After finding a nice sound with a Pod Fender patch into a Mosvalve pwr amp into a 12" Weber in a little box I decided to put together a different rig---a black face Showman I got at a decent price on ebay a couple of years ago because someone had hacked the case up to install a fan (that is no longer in it). I just purchased a 15" Weber speaker and a Duane Marrs enclosure. Used an RV3 for a little reverb/delay. This Showman never got used 'til now because I just couldn't figure out what to do with it---also, at home it never really turned me on but I just re-tubed it with JJ/Teslas and now with this speaker.....this Sunday I played it in a bar into the night and it performed like, well not like a champ because it's a Showman, not a Champ. It sounded good. It's just plain exciting to have a good sounding rig. Not to mention some real good sounding other rigs too---I can change rigs whenever I change my socks. Almost every other week....

Glad to hear you got the old ebay Showman into shape. I remember our email correspondence around that acquisition... Fresh tubes and a Weber 15"... must sound like a minor deity!! Were you playing the p/p or the Carter?

I believe Jody has a "Fender tweed" upholstered futon in his guest room, with oxblood grillcloth throw pillows--

I will admit to having a silver/blue grille cloth graphic as computer wallpaper, alternating with black tolex wallpaper, and a picture of Don Rich's back from the cover of a Buckaroos karaoke album. I also admit to having one arm longer than the other from carrying my Twin Reverb...
