pickup for E-9 ZUM ? LXR16 vs BL 910

Post by Pete Myers »

I'm getting a new ZUM (not soon)...I like
a bright "cutting" sound..I've read that a lot of players like a 910 in the ZumSteel....
Is the LXR-16 to bright??? Can the 910
deliver that "twang factor"?...Thanks in advance for your comments!!

LXR-16 is just right for me on my Zum, brighter than the 912 Sidewinder.

While I have not tried an XR-16 , I have had a 710 and two flavors of a 910, as well as an E-66 in a Zum. To my ear, none of those compared to the open, lively bark and snap of Bruce's stock single coil pickup. The 910 was too thick in the mids for me, the 710 was too shrill. The Jerry Wallace True Tone has been very well received also.
My two cents....

I have had a L710 in my Fessy almost a year
now. Great Pick up. The L XR-16 I've had almost 2 weeks getting used to it. It is a little darker not as bright or as edgy as the 710. XR-16 is a good choice. I hear a lot of the nashville boys really like the
910. The 910 seems to have the single coil
sound with out the hum. The Truetone is a good choice if you want the single coil
sound & very little hum & best bang for the buck. Good Luck
