I use the 2112, the predecessor of the 2120. I usually only use the tube preamp and effects and that's the rig I always use when going direct in the studio. Never had a complaint. You have to be careful with the gain structure -- both within the unit itself and any other effects you're using. You should also be sure that the overall output from the processor is no louder than the signal you would get by plugging your guitar directly into the amp. Cranking up the gain too much at ANY point in the signal chain can lead to noise and/or distortion -- but that's not peculiar to the 2112 or 2120 -- it applies to any processors. The input gain is very sensitive to steel guitar pickups. If you're running it above about 1/4, it's probably too hot. I usually run the output full open, but when I'm running it into a second processor (like a reverb), I have to watch the gain to be sure it doesn't overdrive the input.
The 2120 is studio quality equipment and is virtually noise free when adjusted properly. I have a webpage that may help: http://www.larrybell.org/id20.htm
