Compressor for Tele

Does anybody use a compressor pedal with their Tele? If so, any recommendations? Thanks.

MXR DynaComp keeps that nice tele bite, and the fast attack is GREAT for country pickin'

Tech 21 Comptortion pedal...I use it for compression, distortion, and it does a great job of just boosting the clean tone...Very reasonably priced....The distortion is not the best, but used very sparingly, it will give you that "grit" that you want when you dig into the stings...Just the right amount of dirt to give you that rippin tone...I use it on my pedal steel also !!...It's one of my most used pedals....

Hey, Dave, the new Maxxon comp is getting raves from all the tele blasters I know- I use the new model MXR Super Comp, it's basically a Dyna comp circuit but lets you dial back in the attack which the original dyna comp sort of squashes out. I really like it, nice sustain and "squonk" but still has the attack that you need for note definition. Around $69 at the mega stores...

I have 3 old MXR's, the tech 21.a Boss, and have tried many others. The MXR's are cool, but you have to like or need their unique sound. You can really hear those babies "pump". I haven't used any of these pedals since I bought a Joe Meek VC-3. Wonderfully transparent! Doesn't add to or subtract from your sound, just makes it longer. It's a 1/2 rack space device that is usually thought of as a studio effect, and usually for vocals, but it works great for guitar. I got mine for $100 at a close-out of discontinued models a couple of years ago at GC.

ART SGX 2000. Get them on ebay for about $200. Compressor, limiter, gate, reverb, chorus, delay, digital level, evelope filter, pitch transpose, digital tuner, and anything else you can think of. About 200 factory presets and I think 200 more empty spots for user presets. I use it on all my recordings and even on my bass for live gigs - though they also make the SGX Nightbass.

I use the MXR Dyna Comp. This was based on Brent Mason's recommendation in an article I read years ago. I had a Boss CS-2 that I liked also. I've used every processor in the book (until I got my head straight and went back to a tube combo amp) and none of their intergal compressors compare to the Dyna Comp for Tele IMHO. It has mostly to do with the attack circuit, which is fixed internal at 5ms with a unique shape. Here is the schematic.

The attack time is collector current in Q4 or Q3 against the 10uF capacitor. This results in a linear discharge of the 10uF capacitor, which controls the gain of the CA3080. Most compressors use an exponential attack shape. Most audiophiles would laugh at this circuit, but it works for twang on a Tele.
