Peavey Heritage VTX

Post by Brad Sarno »

Anyone play steel thru a Peavey Heritage VTX? It's a 2-12" 100+ watts tube powered amp. I just grabbed one the other day for CHEAP. I cleaned it up and man that is a very cool amp. The steel sounded great and loud thru it. Seems a hair louder and cleaner than my Twin. For 1/3rd the price of a Twin I was pretty impressed. Cool phaser too. Maybe I'll try the opamp upgrade on it and make it even sweeter.

Brad, the Heritage was part of the same '400' series that the Renown was from, so this doesn't suprise me. But, thanks for the info as it may assist others who are considering this model.

IS this a hybrid amp like the old Duece and Mace? Those were both killer amps, both would kick a Twin in the butt! I replaced my my 1960's Blackace Twin (had two SRO's and a Peavey 4-12 cab under it) with a Mace with two Black Widows back in the mid 70's. I loved the Fender sound and still do but it could not keep up with that band! The Mace was an awesome amp. I hope to find another to add to the collection some day! I had a Duece with BW speakers later on, another killer amp for steel and guitar. These hybrid amps (Musicman was a hybrid in that same era) were great amps. Good find, Brad!
Of course I do not play in a loud band like that anymore. I use a 22 Watt Deluxe with a JBL for guitar and a Nashville 400 for steel for most gigs. 20 years later and I think my ears are still ringing from that Mace!!!
[This message was edited by Ken Fox on 06 January 2003 at 02:56 PM.]
