Yamaha DG Stomp - Settings?

Post by Ron Page »

Santa bought me one and I was wondering what settings you folks use.

I've been experimenting a bit on Clean1 (or is it Clean2...) with reverb, delay and a little compression.

I've run it into my Nashville 400 but mostly into the stereo (mic) and back to headphones for "silent" practice.

I've never used preamp before, so forgive my ignorance. When you run it into the amp to you zero the high/low/mid/presence and set those at the amp? I like the Nashville 400 settings I'm using because I can retard the mids. The DG Stomp can only amplify.

Ron, the Yamaha AG stomp would have been better for Steel as it has quite a nice setting specifically for Steel guitar....IP

I tried one of these with a guitar one time and thought it was great. IMHO it sounded and felt as close to a real amp as any processor I've heard/tried.

The manual should tell you the recommended way to hook it up to an amp. Other than that, the right way is whatever sounds best to you.

I don't know much about the AG Stomp. I'd get a picture of the two and compare the controls. If they are basically the same, then you should be able to duplicate the AG settings on the DG. The DG may end up actually being more versatile because of the added guitar (distortion, etc.) capabilities.

Ron I use a DG stomp at home in my recording
set-up. I think it is the most versitle pedal
in the market place and I saw today that Musicians Fiend(I leave out the r)is dumping
them for 139.00. Ahhh retail. I use the Clean
1 setting with no comp and mids at 9 oclock and bass at 2 oclock and reverb to taste. Sometimes the delay instead of reverb. I'm in
a no chourus frame of mind these days but the phase shifter is kind of different.

Thanks guys. I will check out that AG preset for steel.

Chuck, that's the price I, err Santa, got it for at Guitar Center. The friend who recommended I take a look at it has two of them he bought used for a higher price than that. I figured at that price, the worst case is I'd give it to my son -- a rock guitar player; it put a gleam in his eye on Christmas day when I opened it.

I've got it sounding pretty good to me going into the stereo and back through the headphones. I'll mess with it some more with the Nashville 400.
