Evans AE-100
Folks, I like to get more feedback on this 14"by14" amp with 8" speaker in it. I'm in the middle of shaking off "sciatica nerve problem" and can't carry anything with D-130F in it. 29 lbs is very attractive. No? <H>

I've owned one for 2 months and like it a lot. I use a Boss RV-3 with it.
It's 100W , or 150 W with an ext speaker cabinet. I haven't tried the cabinet yet.
An 8 inch speaker will never sound as good as a 15, IMO. I still think my Nash 400 sounds better. The AE100 is just easy to carry. I've used it, unmiked, in small clubs, with ~100 people.
I don't like the sound of the line out, so I mike it with an SM57 when miking is required.

An acquaintance of my plays one with a Gibson jazz guitar. He uses it in small club and studio settings. The AE-100 is one of the most "transparent" sounding amps I've heard. It amplifies the sound of the instrument which drives it without adding much, if any coloration. That's great for someone using an acoustic instrument or in situations in which you want only the qualities of the instrument amplified.
I don't know if that's what a lot of steel pickers want. What with all the Profex's and other effects processors which are popular with steel guitarists. Many steel pickers even select amplifiers for their characteristic sound. (ie) Fender Twins or Standels or N'400s. All of which impart a specific quality of tone to the overall sound. The Evans AE-100 is fairly free of that kind of thing. Another thing, it's very robust considering it's size and portability.
On the other hand, it might be just the thing for somebody that loves the unaltered sound of their steel guitar...I wonder if Jimmy Day would have liked the AE-100? His sound was the sound of his axe and his hands...nothing else. Breathtaking.....
Keep on pickin'!

Thanks guys! I'm really in it for "easy to carry" end of it. One option I have within my amp collection that sounds great but still to big to carry, is that using Hybrid Standel head( not too heavy, yet quite some power) with 1x12" ported Fender speaker cabinet. I really love to see an amp in the size of Marrs 15" speaker cabinet with amp built in. AE-100 is about the same size as Polytone except Polytone has 12"( no port) in it. I myself don't care too much for the sound of Polytone especialy with Steel, but I like to not to have hernia for the price of tone. yea-yea, I'm wimp alright. <H>

I strongly disagee. I suppose you could set it for a flat response, but you can also set it to get the Mids and Bass that I need for my Carter, even on the C6 neck.<SMALL>"The AE-100 is one of the most "transparent" sounding amps I've heard"</SMALL>
If anything, Evans controls are too sensitive, until you get used to them. A minor change greatly changes the tone color.
