Mike, I got one of these units recently, and downloaded the manual from the web site. What I'm wondering about is this: the instructions say not to plug the guitar directly into the input, instead go first to a preamp or direct box. Is there some reason why this is not a good idea?
I have used it into the effects loop on a NV 400, with good results. Could I use any kind of cheap direct box and then go to a power amp? This looks like a really nice effects processor, with all the effects found on the Profex. The main difference is that the programs have to entered manually. Any advice would be appreciated.
Most effects devices are driven with a "line level" signal(nominal 1 volt) and a guitar produces somewhat lower signal levels. So, a straight guitar signal may or may not drive the Addverb III enough. Besides, you would not have any equalization controls to help "voice" the signal. That's what a preamp does.
The Addverb III will work in either the PRE EQ PATCH loop of the Nashville, or the PRE AMP OUT and POWER AMP IN loop in the rear panel as the signal has already been boosted to a level that the Addverb can use. I would guess that most any direct box would work, but keep in mind that you won't have equalization controls to help develope your preferred tone.
