WEBB Amp Lynn Owsleys @ Scotty's

Post by Gary Steele »

I played Lynns guitar at St. Louis at the Derby booth thru his Webb. Bobby Cox my long time friend from Portsmouth Oh was setting beside me. We thought the amp was absolutely great sounding. He had i think it was a little Boss DD-3 on the floor, I kicked it on and it was even a bunch sweeter. How do you guys + GALS like the webb that has tried about everything? I have a killer sounding rig but it is a bunch to carry around.

Gary, been there done that. Then I got a Webb 614-E. With its equalization and three way tone selector I can dial in any increment
of treble, mid range, and bass, plus conrol the edges. Add a JBL and its the best sounding amp I've ever had. Had mine for three years now and I don't think I'll ever switch again. A friend of mine has a Walker and likes my sound with a Boss RV-3 better, and the Walker is a great set-up. Tommy White was my inspiration for getting one. I also use a Webb extension speaker with it.
[This message was edited by Kevin Hatton on 01 December 2002 at 11:49 AM.]

After 29 years of using PVs I tried a Webb, I now have two, one for a backup. With the 3 way switch to the far right I get a great sound. Other players I have heard use the middle position and it never sounded right to me, and then later to them also so several switched to PV.

Kenny, I dont think i'v ever heard a Peavey amp sound anything like my system now or this webb i'm talking about. I'v had alot of Peavey amps and played thru a bunch more. I'm mostly interested in other views of the Webb. Thanks for the reply, Gary

The Webb is the finest steel amp in my opinion! I bought my first Webb in '79 and unfortunately had to sell it a few months back. I'm looking for another Webb. If you find one, hang on to it. Mr. Webb is one of the finest people to work with.

I love my Webbs. All three of them. I think (not totally sure here) that Bobby Black bought the first one and I got the second. I played one chord through his and I was hooked.

I just can't ever get any tone that I like when I play through a Peavey. When I did a short set at Scotty's back in the Seventies, just to be polite--since Peavey was supporting the show--I tried the Peavey that was on stage for everyone to use. Just couldn't get anything I liked out of it at all. The notes sounded like they were stuck in there and refused to come out. I ended up grabbing my Webb from off stage and got That Tone back.
