Peavey Question

Post by Justin Griffith »

My beloved Session 500 (small cabnet) just developed a very loud hummmmmmmm that gets louder as you increase the reverb. It has always done this a little bit but it has become unbearable. I unpluged the reverb can at the molex connector and it stopped. but if I unplug it at the can it still humms do i just need a new cable for the can or what? Thanks in advance I hate to publicly admit a Peavey problem but Its only over 20 years old Image

I had a similar problem with an LTD. Turned out to be the power supply filter caps were going. They must be close in value to keep the ripple the same on the plus and minus supplies, as the ripple is phase cancelled. If one is going, the hum shows up fast in the reverb section!
That is just one of many things that it could be. Also a bad reverb pan or poor connections at the reverb pan or Molex connector (a very likely problem). It could even be a problem with the drive or return circuits in the reverb section of the amps electronics.

Justin, I checked with our technician who works on our steel guitar amp models. From your description of the symptoms, we suggest that you check for a loose ground wire/molex pin in the molex connector that connects the reverb pan to the bottom of the chassis. Let me know if I can assist further.
