The amazing Webb 614-E Steel Amplifier

Post by Kevin Hatton »

I have been using a lightweight guitar with George L E-66's for the last month. The difference between that and my Sho-Bud Pro-II with Lawrence 710's is night and day. Both our sound man and lead singer asked me to get that piece of junk off stage (the light weight) and they are not even steel players. Anyhow, after two weeks of fooling with the equalization settings on the Webb I was able to finally dial in a decent sound. I am constantly amazed at the Webb's ability to super equalize a guitar. That combined with Lawrence 710's in a Sho-BUD leads to enormous tone possibilities. The Webb is truly an amazing amp. No wonder they use it on the Opry and Tommy White uses one. I use mine with an extension speaker.

Hi Kevin, I too have a Webb...though I do not use the EQ's on my right side, I get " that sound" that I like on the left...what-ever, just as long as we are happy, right ?? I can't see anything that would cause me to change from a Webb...I do have a session 400 and a mosvalve 1500 rack system, just in case something should go down...tom

I use mine with the selector switch to the right, and run the three tone knobs all on about 8, with the right hand side eq switched out. On my black one I do the same but switch the eq in with all of the controls set to zero.

Speakers are different in each but both sound just great. I have been a PV lover for 30 years. I borrowed a Webb from a friend, fooled with it for 5 minutes and I was off and running. I now have two.
