Peavey Tube Sweetener

Post by Mike Brown »

For those players who prefer tube compression characteristics for steel guitar, fiddle, guitar or other instruments, I recommend that you try out a Peavey Tube Sweetener that will provide those tube characteristics when used in conjunction with a solid state amplifier. It will work in an amplifiers' PRE AMP OUT & POWER AMP IN jacks, the programmable effects loop of a effects processor or between your Profex II or Transtube Fex units and the input of the power amplifier. The Tube Sweetener is a product that you have probably never heard about as it never was advertised in major music pulications, but is well worth checking out.

Mike:
I've got one and I think it's just the thing for sweetening up the sound for my rack setup with a Profex II and a DPC 750. Image

Mike...I checked with my local dealer about this unit and was told he couldn't get it due to being a "pro audio" piece. Is he confused?
[This message was edited by Roger Crawford on 23 October 2002 at 03:30 PM.]

I'm interested in learning more about it. Are there any specs or manuals posted on the Peavey site? Is it comparable to a Blue Tube or other tube preamp? How much does it cost? I remember a thread a few months ago about this. Has anyone else used one lately?

Roger: No, your dealer was correct, it is classified as a pro audio unit. However, my local dealer twisted the arm of his Peavey guy and got it for me anyway.
Randy: The tube sweetener is NOT a preamp.
It is basically an effects unit that sweetens and enriches the tone when used with solid state electronics. I think the unit lists at $399.00 but Mike would know better.
