EV speakers

Post by Jim Florence »

Are electro Voice speakers still being built? The factory used to be in Oklahoma City, I think.

Yes, they are still making a few replacement speakers for musical instruments. However, their focus seems to be more towards components than it is to replacement speakers.

Their website doesn't even mention their musical instrument (replacement) speakers.

Donny, They're going to send me comparison statistics on their DL15BFH 15" 300 watt musical instrument speaker, and a JBL D130 F, and a BW 1504. I know they used to make great speakers, don't know about now. I first got aquainted with EV in Vietnam. We flew over the enemy with O2A aircraft equiped with a 15000 watt audio system screaming "Chieu Hoi" . People who complain about loud bands ain't never heard Loud,Ha
I'll let you know what they say

I put a 15" in the Webb I just got today sounds real, some other shallower speakers sound more nasal. It is a 8 ohm but the Webb has power to spare.

I also have a 1501-4DT in my other Webb and it really shines. Those who have the DT all wish Peavey would make them again, they have clearity like you cannot believe.

Guess my assumptions were right...I just got an e-mail from Telex, the company that bought out Electro-Voice, and they no longer manufacture any musical instrument loudspeakers.

I guess that's the reason they didn't get back to me.

To my ears, the EV has a "scooped" sound and is a very clean sounding speaker.

I just removed two 12" EV's from my Music Man 212HD amp and replaced them with a single 15". These are early 80's speakers and have huge magnets. Also, a great sound. Anyone out there have an idea as to what I should ask for these?

Mike,

Do they look like this?

This is an EVM12L - the OEM type that was optional in 80's Mesa/Boogie amps. It's a 200 watt, 8 ohm speaker.

I bought a pair of EVM-12L speakers about two years ago from Zzounds.com. They have served me very well. They look slightly different from the old one in my Mesa/Boogie combo amp, but sound very similar.
