polarity question

Hi gang,I have just put a spkr. in a session 500 and the pigtail that goes to the spkr. is not color coded. Just before the wire gets to the spkr it splits,one side is slick and the other is rough or has grooves down the wire. My question is which wire goes to the red connector and which to black. Bill: The wire with the groove goes to the black terminal on the speaker.

Bill, unless you have 2 speakers in the amp, or unless you're using 2 amps, the "polarity" (speaker phasing) thing is totally meaningless.

You're saying one speaker alone which way it moves does'nt mater as long as it has room to move?

donny is right, 1 speaker doesn't matter as phase changes with signal, an easy way to check speaker polarity use a 9 volt battery and connect to speaker leads, your speaker will pull out or push in, you can sync all speakers together

Yes, one speaker alone makes no difference at all. It is a single source of sound. It is prudent for an amp manufacturer to maintain the correct phase through the signal chain; however, so if you use 2 amps in stereo mode you would not get phase cancellation. With stereo systems or mono speaker systems with multiple speakers, it is critical to have the speakers phased correctly.
