Tube Works preamps
What is the difference between the Blue Tube II and the Real Tube II preamps? Is one preferred over the other for steel guitar? Do they need to be modified to get a good steel sound?

I have a Blue Tube II Preamp RT-924 but only the B Out works (Line and Inst. out) The A
out does not work for some reason. It does not have the mod and I do not think it can have it. Do not know much about it. Will give someone a good deal on this unit if you are interested. This should probably be placed under Buy and Sell but inserted here since this is the subject. Thanks.

I can't tell you EXACTLY what it is, but the input stage of beefed up to handle the hotter input of a steel guitar pickup. Mine has a sticker on it saying "Steel Mod." Call Genz Benz (TubeWorks) in Arizona at 602-941-0705 for details. They may have discontinued this item as it's not on their current site. Try this:

Here`S the answer I got from Scott Andres at Genz Benz.
-------------------
The steel mod increases the plate voltage of the tube on the clean channel so it can be played cleaner louder. There are also several other smaller adjustments to the gain structuring. We only do the steel mods here. The mod costs $100USD or you can order a new one with the mod already installed. Thank you for choosing Tube Works.
