Pedal,knee lever noise and hum

Post by Daniel Gillett »

I was playing my steel last week and I noticed I was getting a loud hum out of my Nashville 1000, and when I increased the volume, it was like my steel became a microphone and the feedback sounded like one. When I came home I set my system up and noticed that everytime I pushed down on the pedals, or used a knee lever it too came through the amp. My Legrande 111 is just a year old and has been extremely quiet. The store where I bought the guitar has no idea, nor did Emmons when I called them, what is causing the problem. My guitar is on the way back to Emmons. HAS ANYONE ever had a similar problem? It's not the volume pedal, it did it going directly into the amp. Not the amp, it also did it on my cyber Twin!!

Daniel. Did you test both necks? My first guess would be the pickup has gone bad. What they call microphonic.Check out this thread http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum11/HTML/002628.html <FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Bobby Boggs on 01 August 2002 at 08:24 AM.]</p></FONT>

Yes, Bob both necks act the same. Thanks for that link. It sounds identical to my problem. This guitar had impressed me so much because it was so quiet. It seems impossible that on a new guitar this could happen. I know it's hot here in Phoenix, and it's in and out of the house during the week, but really!!!!! Anyway it is under warranty so they should be able to fix it---hopefully sooner than later. I bought a Mullen to use until it comes back. The store where I purchased it will buy it back at that time.

Sounds like either a Duff cord or a bad connection at the guitar input socket/neck selector switch.
Dave.

It's too late now if you've already shipped it to Emmons. But have seen both the neck selector switch and the tone control pot, which I bypass. Cause some ugly things to happen.
