Mackie HDR 24

Anybody got some hours on the Mackie HDR 24? Is the editing capability pretty complete? Can you just run a analog mixer into it or do you lots of cards and interfaces and such? It seems like it might be a good blend of hardware and software type abilities. Appreciate sharing your experience. Thanks! Bruce

We have had one in our Studio for about a year and a half. I don't know much about it, but my Son, the studio engineer, loves it. We have had no problems with it, and it has the capability to do anything he needs to do. If you have not checked out the Mackie forum on this, click here

We just completed a CD on the Mackie HDR24 and it is a very nice unit, like most of the digital recorders (e.g., the Alesis equivalent). As Darvin pointed out, I'm also seeing them (both brands) in more and more 'mid-level' studios, so I believe that they're gaining acceptance. Two studios I'm aware of have replaced 3 or 4 ADATS or DA-88s with the 24 track HD machines.

The Mackie (and, I believe the Alesis as well) works fine with an analog board and analog effects. Our experience with it in our little project studio was very positive as well, and we're not professional recording engineers.
