I have been using one for 16 years. It is the original wooden crate. 65 watts, Heavy magnet, 12 inch speaker.Extension Spk outlet, effects line in and line out, Volume and Master volume, bright switch, Hi and Lo inputs, reverb and mid anylizer.

I took 7lbs of hardwood trim off it and it now weighs a light 30LBs
Not bad for small clubs....al Image
[This message was edited by Al Marcus on 17 March 2002 at 05:51 PM.]

Right now I use a Crate GX212. It has, I believe, 100 or 150 watts and 2 12" speakers. I does great for church or the bedroom, but still doesn't have the full tone of an actual steel amp. I finally got to play through a Nashville 1000 at the steel show and there is definately a difference.

I bought an upright bass last fall and the seller gave me an old Crate CR165B- Used as a slave thru the pre-amp out jack in back of my Nasville 400 and into the line-in jack in back of the Crate it's fantastic.

Usually when I'm practicing I use a small Crate. It sounds better with steel than some bigger amps I've tried.

I had a vintage club amp and that thing sucked, more time in shop then stage. I actually had all electronics guys here say not to bring it back, had to send to co. Then 2 nites later, power dips, bye bye amp.

Thanks for the replies. I am opening a small music store in Mineola Texas. I am considering Crate as a line for amps. I play steel a lot, mostly in church which seats about 450. I currently use an old Vegas 400 which has been to the shop twice in the last 2 years and it is acting up. Just wondered if any one else had tried the Crate line. I personally own a Nashville 400 and a late 70's Super Reverb Fender. I would have a hard time giving up either of those
