Music Man 210 Sixtey-Five for steel?

Post by Pete Burak »

Hey Gang,
Anybody ever used a Music Man 210 Sixtey-Five for steel?

Saw a used one today, in real good shape.
2 10" JBL D110's in it.
It's a tube amp. Not to heavey either.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Hey Pete, I've got one that I play steel through occasionally. It is nice and light with a surprising amount of power, but the low end suffers somewhat...much better for 6 string, IMHO.

. . . but that defeats the purpose of a small, light amp

I still maintain that an old LTD or one of the smaller Nashville 400s is about as small as you're gonna get away with -- especially if you play a tuning that goes lower than 10-string E9.

IMHO

Just to clarify...
I'm done with gigging with bands and am researching amps for around the house, and/or "Coffee Shop" type use (No drummer or minimal percussion).

I've been really surprised at the huge sound I've heard from the small amps I've tried so far (in stereo).
The 8" and 10" speakers sound fine to me in the low end at the volume that I want to play at (LOW).

I played through 2 mid to late 60's Fender Deluxes with JBL's this past weekend (Thanks Brad!) and feel this was a good example of having an amp(s) whose sweet spot is in my desired volume range.

A amp whose "sweet spot" is in my desired volume range (LOW).
Cool sounding, reliable, cool looking, lightweight (not that I'm going to be moving them much).
I guess that sums it up.

Then I would go for the MM...it won't break up as sweetly as the Deluxe, since it's a solid state preamp, but it should still sound good, especially with JBLs.

Pete, I have been using a Peavey Envoy 110 - 40W/10" spk for just the kind of gigs your talking about for the past few years now.
It has worked fine for me and I laugh everytime I pick it up and it weighs less that my pack-a-seat full of junk Image!
