Evans Pre-amp

Post by Jim Johnson »

Hey Folks,
I need directions in setting up my rack
system with a power amp, Evans Pre-amp and
Lexicon effects processor. I tried to
hook it up and I get a loud roar when I
turn the amp on.
any help will be greatly appreciated.

Jim, did you try just the pre-amp without the Lexicon to see if that much works OK. I would do that first and if does not make the noise without the Lexicon then the trouble is either the Lexicon which I doubt or the way you are hooking it up. Which Lexicon model do you have? After you try the pre-amp
without the Lexicon you could email me or someone on the forum for help. You should first of all be very sure that ALL your cords are in good condition.

A loud roar sounds like a shorted cable, especially if you get little or no output. If it's more of a 60 cycle hum, you probably have a ground loop.

..Jim, FWIW, I have the same rack system, I run from the volume pedal to the Evans pre-amp to the Lexicon to the power amp...I found that I had to turn the "input" on the Lexicon way down to about 9 o'clock (on an MPX-100) or maybe less than 20% of the input capacity....I turned the output on the lexicon to about 3 o'clock, or maybe 80% of output capacity...the culprit in my rig was the Lexicon input volume...
