Remote Switch for Microphone?

Post by Rick Trolinger »

I play my steel at church, but would also like to occasionally switch off on my Dobro on certain songs. I have a SM57 but sit quite a distance from the PA and I don't want to leave the mike live all the time but don't want to mess with getting someone's attention to turn the mike on. Is there a box or switch made that I could leave the mike live at the PA but switch it on or off from where I sit? Some type of direct box or mini-mixer? Suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks,
Rick

Any electronics geek will gladly build you either a volume comtrol, or just a switch that you can put in-line. Very simple deal...minibox, 2 jacks, and a pot or a switch. Atlas Sound used to make an in-line volume control, but I don't even know if they're still around. I imagine someone else does, though.

We manufacture a Lo Z mic cable that is available in 25ft. and 50ft. lengths that has an on/off switch. The item numbers to order by are #00051440(25ft.) and #00380270(50ft.). Here's a link to our dealer locator for ordering;http://www.peavey.com/html/locator.cfm

Hope that this helps.

We use mic cords with switches in the female XLR connectors at our Church. We also use them on the cables from the band's direct boxes so we can turn them off to switch guitars etc. The only downside is that a lot of times, singers do not realize the switch is off, which makes for some shakey starts.

I know very little about mikes, but don't they usually have on/off switches?

Thanks for the information, guys. Sounds like the mike cord with built-in switch may be the way to go.
