How to mount a profex II

Post by Bill Myrick »

This old man is totally green to the sound effects these days. Help please ? I just recieved my Profex II from Joe Barcus and now I'm wondering how's a good way to mount it where I can see it and reach it. I like to play with my 400 amp beside me so it's louder to me than anyone else. Do they make a rack that will straddle the amp and mount it above it so I can see it better ? Suggestions please -- Thank you. Bill Myrick

Unless I'm stowing my gear in a truck or under a bus, I have my Profex in a soft two-unit rack case; 'velcro' strips secure the front and rear apetures, and the case is quite enough protection when you're carrying your own stuff in your car.

I put the whole thing on top of my Nashville 400, tucking the open front lid under the unit, which slightly raises the angle so I can see it and reach it easily; the pliable material of the bag moulds itself around the handle on top of my amp, and it's quite secure.

I got this at Manny's in NYC for about $80.00, but I'm sure a similar thing is available in most decent music stores...

bill,
glad it made it to you, have you gave it a try yet? the newman settings done well for me. i had it in a big wood case kind of a pain to move around but i placed it right beside me and was able to get to it fast.
when you hook it set your input until it turns green then turn you back up to your desired volume. im sure you know this. hey give the fuzz a little try works good in that rock and roll stuff. Joe

A friend of mine made a snug little wooden box to house the ProFex complete with front closing lid to protect the knobs and all. He then afixed it to a wooden saddle type of mounting and it sits proudly astride the top of his Peavy amp. Works great and is quite secure.
I purchased a stand alone unit from a fellow Forumite and it's a perfect unit for me. Sits at my side, angled just so...so I can see the selection window. I'd be happy to send you a snapshot or two....so you can see how easy it might be to manufacture your own unit. It's all wood. A really nice little unit. Collapse the legs to a folded shut position and it all balances out in a carrying position. Nothing to detach or disassemble. Good Luck to you!

Whew! With the title I thought something else was going on. Image

Make sure you leave room for ventilation. Don't mount it in something that doesn't let the unit get some air. I personally don't like the cloth type rack bags, sort of like wrapping a blanket around your equipment and keeping it "nice and warm".

Mine is mounted in an SKB 2-space rack and it sits by my right leg....it's only about a foot high and plenty of ventilation with the one-space unit mounted in the two-space rack. When not using it I leave the wall-wart and the cord-out attached and in the case.
[This message was edited by Gene Jones on 26 December 2001 at 04:27 AM.]

Hi Lee--- yes I did but I have an industious, retired neighbor who has started building me a rack to set on top of my 400 to hold it tipped up at an angle. Thanks for the offer anyway--I would surely have thought about it other wise. Bill.
