TubeFex 2.0 Upgrade ROM

Post by Bobby Lee »

I recently got a TubeFex, so I subscribed to the TubeFex mailing list at onelist.com. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of activity there - 10 to 20 messages per day.

One hot topic is the new, unreleased 2.0 ROM by Peavey's John Fera. Here's the feature summary page for the upgrade. Sounds great to me - I want it.

According to John in the mailgroup, his only remaining problem is getting Peavey to release it. Mike Brown, can you help here? Is there anything that we as users can do to help make this product a reality?

I'll buy one the day it ships, I can promise you that. I'm sure that we can get a similar commitment from many TubeFex users here on the Forum.

b0b, looks one of my complaints, about not being able to set the global EQ/Levels when you have a TB effects chain displayed, will be fixed in the s/w rev.

When they finally issue the s/w upgrade, it will be a one chip PROM that plugs into a socket.

Has any one tried the 2.0 upgrade. Is it worth the time and trouble. Did you have to change your presets any.

I haven't looked at the Tubefex 2.0. However, I have upgraded the ROM in my Transtube Fex, about 6 months after I got it. It didn't change any of my presets and I don't remember if I had to reload my user presets after replacing the ROM chip.

However, what it did do was fix the sensitivity problems in the built in chromatic tuner and changed some of the factory presets. Nothing else much that I can remember.

Bob, regarding your presets, here's what the link says:
You should save your custom presets to a cartridge or MIDI storage device before upgrading the unit. After you upgrade, reinitialize the unit by pressing (down) and (right) while powering up. This will copy the factory presets to the user presets, effectively erasing your custom sounds. At this point, you can load your sounds back in via the cartridge or MIDI.

Hello!
Bob, you must have read some of the older postings concerning these software updates.

The 2.0 software was in the works and was slow out of the gate, but it has been available for about six or so months. The part numbers are #99000185 for the Tubefex software and if you have the PFC-10 midi footcontroller, the update item number is #99000197.

Call or have your authorized Peavey dealer call our Parts Department to order these update kits.

Mike,

Is this something we can easily do ourselves?

Does this mod also apply to the Transtubefex?

These are static sensitive chips, so if you know the proper procedure for installing these parts, there shouldn't be a problem as they are the plug in type. A word of caution though as the legs of these parts can be damaged if installed incorrectly.

This upgrade applies to the Tubefex, Transtube Fex and Transfex Pro units. For pricing, please e-mail your questions to me.
