Yes...get a new speaker. I put a LeMay kit in my session 400 and a new BW speaker. It's a new amp now!

Justin - I suspect that if you decide to get rid of your old Session 400, there will be plenty of folks here on the Forum who will be quite willing to take it off your hands.

(Keep it and buy a new speaker.)

check the output for sny DC voltage before putiing in a new speaker. If DC is present, you will lose a new speaker in a matter of seconds!

I'll second that comment about DC on the speaker. I lost a D130 that way when my Webb blew and put 60 VDC across it. The voice coil opened up, just like blowing a fuse.

Somewhere I have a circuit that's supposed to protect a speaker against DC, but I never got around to putting it together. I don't use the (repaired) Webb much these days, but if I ever start using it heavily again, I'll build and install that circuit. It would be good insurance for any amp with a direct-coupled output stage.

Hello Justin,
I am sorry to hear that your speaker failed last night. If recommend that you replace the failed speaker with a Peavey 1501-4 ohm Black Widow "SB"(shallow basket) speaker. This speaker was specifically designed for steel guitar applications and sounds great for that application.

Thanks for using Peavey gear. If I can be of assistance to you, feel free to contact me here at Peavey Electronics by phoning toll free in the U.S. at 1-877-732-8391. I'll be glad to assist.

I second that 1501-4 recommendation! I put one in my old Session 400 and compared it to my friends old one with the original JBL D130. We could not tell the tonal difference. The BW gives you 350 watts RMS continous capability, 700 watts peak. It'll take a lickin' and keep on tickin'!

Thanks to all. I guess I better replace the speaker with the on mike spoke of. I hate to change just the basket because this amp is very old and gigged to death. and im sure a new speaker is in order. Where can I get this new speaker? also no dc volts going to speaker so thats good. I finished the job with a Fender Super reverb. Lead player thought is was cool but I didn't so I need to fix this amp asap
Thanks to each and every one of you,
Justin
P.S. I will let you enbalm and bury this amp when it dies for good.
