A few days ago I discovered something that jazz guitarists have of course known for years.I have an Evans ESPA in my rack along with a Rocktron Prophesy preamp/effects processor.I`ve always used the Prophesy`s preamp for guitar and loved it.It has a nice tubish edge even on clean settiings.I needed a SUPER clean strat tone for an overdub and decided to try the Evans instead. What a BEAUTIFULL tone!!Full, warm and without a hint of distortion, but not sterile like a DI sound.Just FYI....Try it!

I use an Evans 500 LV. I replaced the Eclipse speaker with a Black Widow. I use the amp for both lead guitar and steel. Super sound on both. BTW, I replaced the speaker because the Black Widow is so much more efficient than the Eclipse, however is not quite as warm sounding. JMO

Just curious why you would want or need a more efficient speaker? The FET 500 Evans with an Eclipse speaker that I played for 20 years would blow the walls out with pre and post gains both set on three! Just ask some of the guys I played with.

Jim: I don't really know. It just seems that I prefer the slightly harder sound of the Black Widow. I also rarely have my foot pedal more than 1/2 open. (I play single coil pickups) and don't want to open the pedal to the hum stage. The Eclipse is a fine speaker BTW You know steel players are a bunch of nuts anyway.
I'm an Evans endorser, so I'm an Evans fan as you might expect. But I was not happy with the Eclipse's sound after the speaker got about 4 years old. Ed Buffington (owner of Evans) said to me "put in a Black Widow. You'll love it." I did just that and I do love it. I put a Black Widow in my other, older, Evans and it sounds fine also.
The BW is a good speaker, period. I also have a mid-60's Standel that needed two 12's replaced. I put Peavey Scorpions in and they kicked the sound up a notch or two.
