Peavey Classic VTX 212
Howdy folks! I'm thinking of using this 50watt tube amp for lap steel. Anybody have any experience with this series at all- preferably with lap steel but would appreciate PSG user advice or even 6-string insights...

I used a VT series amp that I picked up real cheap w/ PSG before getting a steel amp. Never outside the house, though--as you probably know, living room sound and real world sound are two very different things. If yours is the same, we are talking 2channel solid state preamp and 2 6L6 output tubes. As this is a guitar amp (and in my case there were two no-name speakers in it) the sound was a bit shrill and lacking in headroom for PSG. But I would guess that unless you are going Hawaiian, this would work well for lap steel with good speakers and dialed in right.
I have lately discovered while practicing weekly at a real deluxe practice studio with a toystore like selection of amps--I've found that if my mind and ear is open to new sensations, it's hard to not find something to like in almost any amp. I had a ball one night with an Ampeg Reverborocket--grossly underpowered and dirty as all getout. But loads of fun once I adapted to it. But I digress. Yeah, I would think that you could do well with that amp.

When I first started playing steel in a night club, I used a Fender Super Reverb and a Classic VTX. It was one of the best sounds I have ever gotten. I played in stereo through a cheap Arion delay. I would recommend the Classic VTX. Be sure to check out the "pull" knob on the phase shifter, you can stop the sweep and fine tune some really good sounds.
