Has anyone use a PA for a there steel amp ??

Hye Guy, has anyone ever use a small PA for there steel amp.Like a JBL PA powered speakers two 12" or 15"
? Do you think this good or bad,
when I go out to play that a church, most of the time it's just me and my wife, I just use sound tracks
I'm thinking i would a place to plug in my
steel & lead guitar + my Mini Disc + My mics
I was thinking of getting a 12 channel mixer and if you think this is ok to do this, then what kind of mixer or PA, would you use, ??? maybe you can help me on this one

I prefer the "color" that a good guitar or steel amp adds to the tone of the steel. PA and hi-fi equipment sounds too bland to my ears. Maybe if you used a Pod between your guitar and the PA, you could get a good tone. Straight into the board doesn't cut it though, IMHO.

Altho I do have a serious rack-mount unit (6 space),I quite often play through the "Peavey" 16 channel Mixer board. When EQ'ed properly along with using 2 CS-800's as poweramps,this is an awsome sound. I don't worry if I'm up in the mix or not. Believe me,my sound is there. I use a DD-3 for delay in front of the MX-board and just a tad of the mixer-board reverb.

I love this setup because I only need to carry my Steel and Pack-A-Seat. Really beats carrying 2 amps plus its allways already set-up and all I have to do is plug a mike cable into the DD-3.

The only down side of this is: I cain't play as well as I would like to.

If you go through a Tubefex or other effects device to shape your tone, you should get a good sound through the PA.

i use a PA for my Steel set up.
3 way Peavy Eurosound w: a Yamaha 12 channel mixer.(Amcron + Quadraverb)
it's a whole lot simpler than haulin more amps.
Most of the time, since i play in small cafes or clubs, i have most of the instruments + vocals goin' through the PA.
(even the Bass too !)
i also use a CD player for back ups.
i don't have much need for MegaWatts, just a Clear sound w: the necessary impact.
it's great havin Acoustic instruments rather than all Electrics.
i find the 15" speakers on the PA better than my Twin w:12"JBLs for C6.
(i do use the Twin mostly for Guitbox)
i'll agree w: b0b that Steel amps have better colour than a PA though.
Since you're playin' in Church Gary, a PA should be all you need. Playin' in Church has that special sound that is rarely found elsewhere !
Here in France the Stone Churches have that special sound because of the height and cubic volume. ( the next best thing is a tiled Metro station,half packed!)

Hi. I use a Peavey XR560 and have for years.
I use a Roland Space Echo, Mutron Bi-phase and a Korg KR55 rythum machine for my drum effects. My wife thinks my sound is as good or better then any we have heard any place. I personally have never liked the sound of a regular amplifier for steel guitar. I realize I am one of few. I run my system through 2 speaker boxes with 1-8 ohm horn driver and 2 12" 16 OHM speakers in each box.

I play through serveral different Church PA systems using only my guitar and Peavey TransTube Fex. THe TTfex has stereo mic level outputs for playing direct to the board and sounds great.

I play through the PA at my Church also. I go from the steel to the volume pedal, to a Digitech 2112 processor/preamp, to a BBE Direct box with a Sonic Maximizer built in. I use the XLR out on the direct box, for the house system and the 1/4" out to a Peavey LA 400 amp for my monitor. I have a stage monitor sitting in front of me that has my steel in the mix, but it gets too muddy when the guitar, bass, and drums are all playing. My house sound is controlled by the front of house engineer, my son, who grew up listening to steel guitars, and knows how they should sound. We have a 6000 watt bi-amped system for a 800 seat auditorium, so we're not short on sound.

Hey Guys Thanks for helping me out here, I have been thinking of going to a big music store, and try out some there PA and just take my steel guitar and plug it and go for it, I play my mini disc though my Stereo steel preamp, there no way to do a mix on the sound tracks, some song has to much bass
or little bass,and i play my lead guitar in
my steel guitar seting to much bass there also,So i'm looking for setup wear I can mix everything, a steel guitar seting is not good
lead guitar & mini dics & mics.I do think a lead guitar great in a PA also.time to do some home work thanks Gary

I'm about to find out about steel into PA.

The band I play in is going to start using in-ear monitors. In the past I used to listen to my NV400 as an ad hoc monitor. Without the need to do that anymore, I'm going to just come off of my rack unit (Evans ESPR preamp and Lexicon MPX-100) into a direct box to the PA mixing board. We'll be using a separate mixing board for the monitor mixes and I'll bave a two-channel mix for my in-ears. Steel in one channel and a blend of the rest of the band in the second channel. They'll be mixed together in both ears and I'll be able to set the levels of each channel as needed while I play. It should work o.k....we'll see.
