Fender Super Reverb ?

I have a guy tying to buy my Super.He insist on knowing the weight.I have no scales.
Ampwares, before they closed list a 66 Blackface at 60 lbs.Howerver they listed a 68 Silverface at 80 lbs.I never understood this so I E-mailed them to inquire.They never answered.
My amp is a 67 Silver face (but) has the factory Blackface circuitry.Can anyone with a Fender book help me.Thanks in advance.-------bb

I would think that a lot of the difference in weight cames from changes in the transformers to increase the output power. If yours is a 40 watt model it would most likely be the 60 pounder. I've checked two of my Fender amp books, no specs on weights in either.

I don't know for sure, Bobby...so I'm going to speculate. I'm pretty sure it doesn't weigh 80 lbs., though (that's more than most Twin Reverbs weigh!) Since the Super has smaller transformers, and smaller (magnet) speakers, I'd guess it's probably somewhere around 55-60lbs.. (Unless it's got EVM, or SRO speakers...in that case, all bets are off!)

I had one about 20+ years ago. If my memory serves me correctly, it weighed 67lbs.

If I could pick the amp up I could tell you if it weighed over 70 lbs. That little vein in the middle of my forehead pops out and pulsates when I pick up any amp over 70 lbs.

Thanks guys.I'm guessing between 65 and 70lbs.Ya know 70 lbs is a lot heaver now than it was 25 years ago.They must have a different formula now'a'days,for measuring weight.

A special thanks to Ken for taking the time to look through his books.I had a 68 Twin that weighed 70 lbs at UPS.However it had a 15 inch JBL.----------bb

Just another thought. I've shipped several Twins and other large amps this year. The tubes will generally not survive the trip if left in their sockets. Pull them out, wrap each in bubble wrap, store in the bottom of the amp. It's also a good idea to cover the speakers with a piece of 3 to 6 mil plastic, then fill the back of the amp with bubble wrap, air pillows, or at least crumbled up newprint. I also cover the whole amp in 3 to 6 mil and add cardboard pieces over the front and back prior to putting it in a box. These heavier amps ship best upside down! That takes the load off of the chassis mounting screws. You'll also need to use styro-foam corners to keep the amp up a bit from the box. I went to a Peavey dealer, who had just got a shipment of amps in, he gave me some amp boxes with the packing corners, worked great. If your not real adept at packing, Mailboxes,Etc. does a great job of packing.

My old twin with JBL's weighed a ton. More than 70 lbs.

My Peavey Classic 50 w/ 4 10's weighs in around 68 lbs.

My guess would be 65-70 lbs too.
