Session 500 fuse

Where can I get an 8 amp fuse for my Session 500? I've called every place in the Twin Ports and struck out, I e-mailed Mike Brown and no answer, tried to get local Peavey repair information - nahdah, the information was wrong. There must be someplace I can get one. Please help.

I've gotten fuses like that at Radio Shack. You could also try the web sites of Mouser Electronics or Digikey or Newark.

Thanks Mike, I e-mailed the parts dept. I called but after being on hold for a while got impatient.

Thanks Glenn, but as for Radio Shack, they told me they don't carry anything like that up here.

You need either an Electrical Supply house or an Industrial Electronics Firm like
Dow Electronics, Hamilton-Avnet, or Graybar.
I checked my Mouser Electronics catalog #604 and they have an AGC-8, 8 amp fuse on page 346. (I don't know if the Session 500 uses an AGC fuse but that is the most common)
The other common type is a 20mm and they have that in 8 amp as well.

George,

Long-time Session 500 owner here. If you don't need a slow-blow fuse (and you really don't on that amp) you can generally get a suitable fuse immediately at your local auto parts store. Actually, here in Michigan it has been many years since I've blown a fuse. We don't get the voltage spikes like we used to. Our AC power is usually pretty stable at 117 V and I stay away from long extension cords and other voltage-drop situations. But anyway, when you do find a fuse, buy two and that way you can duck-tape a spare inside the amp cabinet.

Hi George,
After reading this post/request, I went out to my garage and found some 4 8 amp fuses. Im not sure what size you have, but I have a couple of 8 amp 1/4" x 1.25" fuses. They are not Slow Blow fuses however, but the last reply said you dont need slow blow fuses. If that is what you need, contact me, and maybe for a beer next time we see each other, I can send you a couple of fuses. One thing that does come to mind however, is that the fuse blew for a reason. Let me know

When mine blew, it also took out the speaker, so you might be prepared for some $$$.

It's a great amp, I don't know what would have caused it. What ever it was, I'm going to get it fixed. Thanks for all the information.

George, my 500 blew a fuse so I found an 8 amp slow blow and put it in. When I turned it on the transformer blew out too. There was a dead short in a transistor and the slow blow must have left the power to the transformer too long. Anyways, now I have to buy a $90.00 transformer now. I don't think I would use a slow blow fuse again in that amp. LH

I was whining ........er....., talking to another steeler I recently met up here. He told me about the resister thing. He also recommended a reputalble tech in the area. I brought it in yesterday. Thank you all for the advice.

FWIW:
I got the ol' gal back today, it was a cracked board and B/O transister. It perks along like new now. Parts were cheap, labor fairly priced.
