Speaker Upgrade

Post by Steve Stallings »

OK...I'm bored with my Peavey Classic 50-212 that I use for six string. It sounds pretty good, but lately I've been thinking about changing out the stock speakers to Jensens or something along those lines. Any suggestions? Is this worth the time and money? I just read through the thread on tubes and considering that I've been gigging very steadily with this amp for four years, that may be required as well. What about mullard or something like that?

Hey Steve,

Instead of replacing your speakers maybe you should add an extension cabinet. Does the Classic have two speaker jacks? What is the recommended load for the amp?

Bored with the amp, huh? Well, as we discussed in the tube post, the Classic's EL84s have their own tonal characteristics and are suited to overdriven sounds. An amp with 6L6 power tubes will give you a cleaner, fuller, rounder sound.
