Profex II Question, maybe Mike Brown

Post by Bob Brocius »

What does it mean when the "Active Clip Lite" blinks green? I'm sure it means clipping when it glows red but I'm not sure about the green.

That says .....

"Hey, It's O.K. The sound is not distorted or whatever."

As long as you don't get into the red you are O.K. Now, This must be taken with a grain of salt tho, because, sometimes, (like what I do) drivin' another device(like a EQ unit) may be too much gain for it,and the output of that device may be distorted. It's a trad-off that we must learn and realize whats happining !!

What I recall from my Pro Fex II days; the book says to set your input gain until the green light just starts to turn red. I did this with full impedance from the guitar, or wide open volume pedal and a "Hard" signal from the pickup. Then back off just a little on the Profex input gain. It does depend too on the configuration of your hookup. Alot of people go direct from the guitar to the profex, then loop the volume pedal. What ended up best for me was guitar, volume pedal then amp input, bypassing the amplifier's (Nashville 400)preamp. The pro-fex II gave me really great service. I am sorry I ever traded it off. Regards.

Thanks guys for the replies. I feel better now. Of course, I can no longer honestly blame the equipment. I guess I'm going to have to learn how to play the darn thing.

The active clip LED indicates that there is sufficient signal present to be processed. When this LED turns red, then the input circuit is being clipped. By plucking the string hard and increasing the volume(volume pedal at maximum), this should give you an idea of where to set the control for maximum gain at loudest stage volume. When this occurs, the signal is at its "peak". As long as this occurs at "peak" volumes, you should be OK.
