Post by Carl Johnson »

WHATS THE DIFFERANCE BETWEEN A RAM CARD AND A ROM CARD? AND HOW DO YOU USE THE ROM CARD?

As far as the "Profex II is concerned,no DIFFERANCE at all. It's just a memory card specifically the"Profex II" EFX unit.

Unfortunately, This card is no longer made. You may find find one avalable from another steel player somewhere but "Peavey" does not make this card anymore. I have found out that "Roland" makes a ROM-card that will work in this unit, but I cannot vouch that it will work in all cases.

All in all, I still feel that the "Profex II" is one of the best EFX units ever made for steel players.

A "ROM" is a "Read only Memory" where a "RAM" is a Random Access Memory that can be written to and read, just like the memory in a computer.

If you had a "ROM" card you could only read from it, you could not write to it. The Peavey "Cache" card is a RAM card that you can store (write) user programs to and load (read) user programs from it. The same Peavey card is used in the Profex II, Transtube Fex, Tube Fex and several other Peavey devices.

I like the ProFex II but I wish the delay could be set higher than 350MS. It would be nice if the delay would go to at least 450MS. I have to put a external digital delay pedal to get it.

You have to initialize the cache card before you can write to it.

Also please turn off the capitals. It's considered shouting on the forum. Thanks
