Recording from computer: Help please!

Post by Jerry Roller »

I have an 8 track recorder and BIAB on the computer. Would someone please help me in hooking the computer to the recorder? The computer has a stereo type small female jack and the male jack runs to a small Altec Lansing computer speaker hard wired to the speaker and another wire comes from that speaker to the second speaker. There is no notation on the speakers as to ohms. Is someone using something like this?
Thanks,

Hey Jerry,
Well, actually it doesn't make much
difference what the ohms are. You're
just looking for another audio line
out to feed into your recorder, right?
There should be another one on the back
of your tower next to the one feeding
the speakers. Or you could use the
headphone jack on the side of one of the
speakers (although, it might not be
quite as good...but close). Just get an
adapter with a stereo 1/8 in. male plug
on one end, and two RCA females on the
other. I got mine for about 50 cents.

Jay's right, Jerry. There should be a 'line out' on the sound card on your PC. That's a stereo mini phone jack. All you need is a cable with a male mini phone stereo plug that Y's out to two RCA plugs that you plug into the aux in (or two channels) of your recorder. I have an extra cable like the one you need and I'll send it to you for free if you'll give me your address.

On most sound cards there is a "line out" jack. This is the one that I use to go to my recorder.
