Nashville 400 problem - please help!

Post by Jeff Lampert »

The pull-switch that brightens the tone no longer brightens it. Well, maybe a hair, but nothing like it was doing previously. Any ideas. Thanks in advance.

Are you sure the switch is working. The knob on my pull-bright switch was loose and if I pulled on it the knob would move but not the switch.

I fixed it with a little teflon tape - the type used in plumbing. Wrap about two turns around the pot shaft and then push the knob back on.

I took the plastic knob off and pulled on the metal post. The post pulled out but it made no difference in the sound.

Jeff, check to see if the switch "clicks" when you pull it. Other than that, the first thing I'd do is check the pc board to make sure it's got a good solder connection. If everything is OK I'd suspect the switch. I doubt that the electronics went bad.

It absolutely clicks. How do I get to the PC board? How do I get to the switch to repair it? Thanks.
[This message was edited by Jeff Lampert on 27 June 2001 at 06:00 AM.]

Jeff, based on your questions I'd say take it to an authorized Peavey repair center for repair or send it to Peavey for repair.

To get at the PC board, quite a bit has to be disassembled. If the switch is bad, it will have to be replaced with an exact replacement from Peavey (it's a combination switch/pot).

I'd say that you either have a defective pull pot, or your strings are dead.

I change my strings at least once a week. I first noticed this at a gig last Friday where I played on a new set of strings. By the way, I always play with the brightness pulled on. Couldn't I just solder a connection that bypasses the pull pot?
[This message was edited by Jeff Lampert on 27 June 2001 at 09:35 AM.]

Wouldn't do that.......
You may want to sell or trade the amp and if it has been modified,well..... you get the idea.

Have it fixed. Should be a snap by the local repair shop.

Shoot some "tuner cleaner" at it. If that doesn't fix it, get it to a Peavy dealer/repairman.

There should be a 12db boost when you pull it, so it's easy to hear the difference, dead strings or not!!

Again, shoot some tuner cleaner at it, and work the pot in/out, and back/forth.
while your at it, clean the rest of your pots. It may make a big difference all around. (Or not)

You can get tuner cleaner at Radio Quack for about $10.00 or so.

I unbolted the chassis, hooked up a 5-15 volt lamp from a toy with a 9V battery, connected the two ends to the pull pot, and confirmed the fact that when the pot is pulled, the connection is completed (the light went on). Therefore, and in consideration of the fact that I do note a very tiny difference in the sound when I pull the pot (nothing close to the full treble boost I was getting), it seems that it must be that the electronics are fizzled. Any other possibilities you can think of? I imagine it's gotta go to Peavey for repairs.

Have it repaired. If that function does not work, there could be other problems too.
