Profex ? for Mike Brown or any Profex users

I'm awaiting a Profex 2 which is coming loaded with some steel settings. I've heard that there's a battery inside - will this one day run out and lose me all the settings? Is there some way of backing up the data before this happens?
Any other recommendations from you pro's?

There were several threads on this topic in the past,and a SEARCH of Electronics will probably answer your question----and a whole lot more!!! Then go with whatever Jack Stoner suggests, IMO.

I don't know how I've been anointed the Profex guru, which I am not.

However, to answer your question on the battery. Yes, there is a battery inside that is used to back up the USER memory. The battery is a soldered in type similiar to some of the older PC's. The battery life was rated for 5 years but I've seen many that run longer than that.

If the battery goes bad, you WILL lose whatever is stored in user memory and in your case the steel guitar programs that are loaded in it and they will have to be reloaded.

My recomendation is to have a cache (memory) card on hand with the user programs loaded on it. Although the unit is very stable, the loss of user memory is a possible for reasons other than just the backup battery. I would not go on a job without a backup cache card, and carry one in my steel seat for my Transtube Fex (the later model that replaced the Profex II).

The Profex II can hang up occasionally and do wierd things and a "factory reset" is usually necessary to fix this. When you do a "factory reset" it also erases the user memory and you lose any programs you have stored in it. There is a remote chance you could unintentionally erase or change a program while operating, etc etc.

Here's a source of the batteries used in the Profex. This is a solder in type battery and requires soldering skill to replace.

Battery type 3/V60R 3.6 volt nicad type 60mAh

Cost is $3.95

It's not rocket sicence to replace this battery, Just commom sence.

Yes, the unit does tell you when the battery is low..I replaced mine and while it is not extremely difficult,you do have to completely disassemble the unit to get to both sides of the PC board..
