Altec Lansing speakers

Post by Dave Zirbel »

A friend just gave me a pair of these with the model #417-8C Dia Cone. I popped them into my 1971 Twin Reverb and that amp never sounded so good as it does with those speakers. I like them better than the JBL E-130 I was using. Is anyone else using Altec Lansing speakers? I'd like to try them with my Webb. Just thought I would share this with y'all.

Glad to hear about some other speakers for steel guitar use. I am in the market for a speaker change. Larry

Dave, years ago I used a Cord-O-Vox with my steel. I don't remember what brand the original speaker was, but I continued to blow it out with volume. I finally replaced it with an Altec-Lansing (which I believe was mfg in OKC at the time) and that speaker remained intact as long as I used the Vox. I just now looked in the yellow pages, and I don't see an ad for their company currently. www.genejones.com

Thanks to the knowlegable help of folks on this forum, I found out that I have an Altec-Lansing 15 in my Vibrosonic. I really like it. I looked up the corporate homepage for Altec-Lansing and they seem to be out of the musical instrument speaker business. I did notice a pair of 12" 411's for sale here- http://www.speakerrestoration.com/specials.html
The L in JBL stands for Lansing, so there must be some realtionship (and an interesting story, I'll bet) between JBL and Altec-Lansing. Anybody know how the speakers are related to each other?
